Welcome!

The Dennis Arts and Culture Council (DACC) supports programs and performances for the Town of Dennis, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. In 2013 we distributed over $4000 from both the Massachusetts Cultural Council and funds we raised through the generous support of our townspeople. Our site has some general information about the DACC. We also have a page if you want to apply for a grant. Financial donations can be made to the Dennis Arts and Culture Council for our expenses and programs. Find our meeting dates, and agenda notes, on the Town of Dennis calendar. We’re also on facebook. There are some other things you can do that help support the DACC.

A Book In The Hand (ABITH)

In 2013, ABITH starts its fifth year. I want to thank all the great Cape Cod authors who shared their work with us, and the loyal, enthusiastic audience members who come every month to cheer them on. A special thanks go to Phil Inman, the director of the Jacob Sears Memorial Library in East Dennis, MA, and the trustees, for giving us our lovely home; and for Phil’s attention which makes “living there” a pleasure. Also, thanks to Melanie Lauwers, book page editor at the Cape Cod Times, who hangs on to that page with a grip of iron, and supports the Cape literary community down to the last dotted “i.”

The arts — visual, performing, and written — are Cape Cod’s primary cottage industry. We have theaters, galleries, music venues, classes, workshops, and indie book stores everywhere; and there’s something for everyone. Please help the work that ABITH does to support the written arts and forward this and every ABITH email to the local contacts on your list. If you haven’t attended one of our events, then please do, and bring your friends. If you’re an unpublished author or illustrator, this is a good opportunity to find out how “they” did it. If you’ve got a book (prose only) in print, this is a good opportunity to get the word out.

Thanks again for a successful first four years!

Elizabeth Moisan
Please visit our web site: www.abookinthehand.jimdo.com

ABITH (A Book in the Hand) meets monthly on the 2nd Monday of the month. Currently we’ll meet on Monday, March 11, 2013 from 7 to 8:30 pm, at the Jacob Sears Memorial Library, 23 Center Street, East Dennis. Reading from their published books will be Cape Cod authors Pam and David Purdy, and Richard Gifford.

Author David Purdy and artist Pamela Purdy will present their book, Icons of the Civil Rights Movement, a combination of art and history that honors those who took part in the fight for equal rights.

Richard Gifford’s mystery novel, MacMillan Wharf, takes us along the familiar streets and waters of Provincetown, only to discover all is not as it seems.

A free raffle will award two lucky winners a signed copy of the authors’ work. The meeting is free and open to the public.

A Book in the Hand meets monthly to celebrate the printed page and the spoken word. We sponsor readings by Cape Cod authors of published prose. For information, or if you are an author interested in participating as a reader, call or email: 508-432-5907 or elizabethmoisan@yahoo.com
